Privacy policy

Last updated: 30 October 2026

This policy explains how personal data are handled when you visit act4kids-tb.org or write to us through it. It applies to this website only.

Who is responsible

The website is published by the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Nationalestraat 155, 2000 Antwerp, Belgium, which coordinates the ACT4KIDS-TB consortium. ITM is the controller of the personal data processed through this website.

For any question about your data, write to ITM at privacy@itg.be or use the contact form. ITM’s general privacy policy is available at itg.be/E/privacy.

What we collect

  • When you browse the site: there is no account and no advertising. Visits are counted anonymously, without cookies, to measure the site’s audience (see “Cookies and audience measurement” below). The server and the security system record technical data (IP address, browser type, pages requested, date and time) to keep the site running and protect it against attacks.
  • When you write to us: the name, email address, subject and message you enter in the contact form. They are sent by email to the coordination team and are not stored in the website’s database.

Why we use them, and on what basis

  • To answer your message: ITM’s legitimate interest in responding to the requests sent to it (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR), or steps taken at your request before a collaboration (Article 6(1)(b)).
  • To keep the site secure and working: ITM’s legitimate interest in protecting the site and its visitors (Article 6(1)(f)).
  • To measure the site’s audience: ITM’s legitimate interest in knowing how many people visit the site and which pages they read, to improve it and report on the project (Article 6(1)(f)).

Your data are never used for marketing and never sold.

Who receives them

Only the ITM staff who handle your request and, when your question concerns them, the consortium partner involved (in Belgium, Benin, Kenya or South Africa). When a partner outside the European Economic Area receives your data, we share only what is needed to answer you, under appropriate safeguards agreed between the partners. The technical providers who host and maintain the site can access data only to deliver their service.

How long we keep them

  • Contact messages: as long as needed to handle your request, and no longer than three years after our last exchange.
  • Technical and security logs: a short period, generally a few weeks, unless they are needed to investigate an incident.
  • Audience statistics: anonymous; kept as long as they are useful to the project.

Cookies and audience measurement

The site uses no advertising, tracking or audience-measurement cookies, and loads no third-party content (fonts, videos, social networks) while you browse. Audience measurement relies on Independent Analytics, a tool installed on the site’s own server. It sets no cookie and does not store IP addresses: each visit is counted with an anonymous identifier, computed from the IP address and browser type together with a secret key that is renewed regularly. The resulting statistics (visits and visitors per day and per month, pages viewed, referring sites, approximate location, type of device) stay on the site’s server and are never shared with third parties. For these reasons the site does not display a consent banner.

  • pll_language remembers the language you chose (English or French), for up to one year.
  • WordPress and security cookies (wordpress_*, wp-settings-*, wfwaf-authcookie-*) are set only for editors who log in to manage the site. Visitors do not receive them.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings; the site remains fully usable.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to access your data, correct or delete them, restrict or object to their use, and receive them in a portable format. Contact us as indicated above; we answer within one month.

If you consider that your rights have not been respected, you can lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels (dataprotectionauthority.be), or with the authority of your country of residence.

Clinical studies

No personal data of the children and families taking part in the ACT4KIDS-TB studies is collected through this website. Those data are governed by the study documents approved by the competent ethics committees.
